Jarrell Residents Line 5th Street for Homecoming Parade

The 2013 Jarrell ISD Homecoming Parade was the place to be Wednesday, October 2.  Residents lining the streets were treated to over 25 parade entries traveling from 1st Street, down Avenue H, and turning on to 5th Street in Downtown Jarrell as it headed to the Jarrell Middle School parking lot for a spirited pep-rally.

Leading off the parade this year were two people that the planning committee felt spend a considerable amount of time supporting Jarrell ISD, most of the time behind the scenes.  It was a pleasure to have The Jarrell, TX - Hometown Spirit - King and Queen riding in the Deborah's Digital Design parade entry (driven by JES Principal, Jack Wilson, accompanied by JISD Board Member, Tookie Mullen.)  Congratulations to Troy "King" Clawson and Brenda "Queen B" Cooper.

Top prize for JISD entries went to the Jarrell Varsity Football team on their football field inspired float.

Second place went to the The Cougarettes.  The future cheerleaders of JHS.

Third Place went to Jarrell FFA.

Top float for the business community was awarded Clawson Disposal for their innovative entries which consisted of dual cannons mounted on a rolling sound system (Troy's Truck), a motorized dumpster and the newest addition to their fleet.  Watch the cannons go off here.

A video of the parade can be seen here.  Links to both the cannon shot and full parade are on the Deborah's Digital Design facebook page.

Friday is a big day for JHS.  Lady Cougar Volleyball teams face the Lady Eagles from Salado in  big district match-ups beginning at 3:30, with the Freshman and Junior Varsity teams, followed by Varsity.  Homecoming Court will be presented at 6:30 and the Homecoming game against Johnson City will begin at 7:30.  Please watch facebook (www.facebook.com/DeborahsDigitalDesign) for links to photos from all of these events.

Good News from JISD Board Meeting - Jarrell Middle School Construction on Track and JISD Tax Rate Remains Unchanged

The middle school is on track and visible changes will begin soon. The first and second pads have been poured. Concrete should be complete next week. This is just in time for steel to start going up on September 23. The campus will regain use of one of their gymnasiums by the end of September, They are just waiting on the fire alarm and communication system install to complete and the Fire Marshall to inspect.

Jarrell ISD School Board made it official last night at the September 16 meeting of the JISD Board of Trustees. The group officially approved the resolution setting the 2013-2014 Tax Rate to $1.39 per $100 value. This rate is unchanged from last year. This was exciting news after receiving the update on construction report on the new Middle School.

In other business, the Board approved the AgriLife Resolution, granting excused absences to Jarrell 4H participants attending 4H events.  The 2013-2014 Code of Conduct and District Improvement Plan were also passed.  As the district grows, so do work loads and responsibilities.  In light of this, the district added a Maintenance/Receiving Clerk position.  All of these decisions were unanimously passed by the full board.

Finally, in the Superintendent's report, Dr. Chapman shared that the district enrollment was 1128, but Mr. Wilson quickly added that he has two more coming in to the JES campus this week.

Jarrell HS Teachers Recognized for Successful Summer School Session

The JISD Mission Statement reads: Jarrell ISD will have high expectations for all students. The district will make every effort to attract and retain the most qualified teachers available who will enhance the positive image of our schools in the community. The caring atmosphere provided by these teachers will help promote the positive self-image for the students in the district. JISD will encourage positive staff morale by providing clean and attractive campuses.

The district recognized some of these teachers in the Cougar's Roar presentation at the September 16 Board Meeting. JHS Principal, Michael Stovall, and the Board of Trustees took time to recognize some of the teachers that made the busy summer school session a success. Coach Fitzner, Mrs. Makal, Ms. Finch, Mr. Coyle, Ms. Barker and Ms. Stephens all received a certificate and the "JC" pin from the Trustees, who in turn, presented Mr. Stovall with the Cougars Roar honor for their part in the success of the busy summer session.
